Digitizing complex processes

I simplified an automotive supplier’s training registration process that took trainers, managers, accountants, and many paper forms into a website.

Training Registration Portal Design

Overview

I was the main designer in a digital team of 3. I researched the many different user types to create personas and focused on creating a website that completes each personas goals in a simple quick way. The site launch was a huge company success and is still utilized nationally today.

Work I Completed

Information architecture, visual design, user research, interaction design, user interface design

Research

Interviewed the supplier’s regional coordinator, brand manager, course instructor, training manager, certificate printer, and a automotive dealership employee who signs up for training often.

Lo-fi prototyping

My usual process is to try out designs in my notes after I diagram out my understanding.

Final Design

  • Before

Several paper forms, phone calls and emails back and forth between different people in order to set up maybe 30 different training courses across the US. The digital team and I focused on solving that with a step process registration site that grew from there.

  • After

The 3 step registration site design grew into a multi-level one stop website utilized by corporate and dealership level personnel to sign up for training, input passing participants, handle billing and certificates shipping.

Final Concept

The clients loved the final concept. From there I assisted the development team with reviews and testing.
